Tokenization

The token changed hands. Did the legal rights?

01Dictionary Meaning

Tokenization is the representation of an asset or a set of rights as a digital token recorded on a programmable ledger.

02What People Think

"Put an asset on a blockchain and ownership can move anywhere."

03What’s Underneath

A token linked to a building might represent rental income, a claim against a company or rights over the property itself. Those arrangements leave a holder in different positions.

Digital records can make some rights easier to divide, transfer and coordinate with payments. Legal terms still determine what moves, which buyers may hold it and who must honor the claim.

Crossing a border can introduce further legal and access conditions. Easier transfer also does not create a buyer or remove the need to manage the underlying asset.

04The Game

What right is represented, does transferring the token transfer that right, and which institutions make the connection effective?

05One Line

The future of ownership still has terms and conditions.
