Rage Bait
You wrote five furious paragraphs. The creator counted five more reasons to post it again.
01Dictionary Meaning
Rage bait is content deliberately made to provoke anger so that people give it attention or engage with it.
02What People Think
If I explain how wrong this is, I will stop it spreading.
03What’s Underneath
Rage bait is built around a reaction. An outrageous claim, deliberately frustrating demonstration, or offensive performance gives people a reason to argue, correct, quote, or share. In the scenario the term describes, provoking that response is part of the point rather than an accidental consequence.
Picture someone intentionally ruining a meal on camera. Viewers explain the mistake in increasingly elaborate comments. The creator does not need everyone to approve of the recipe if attention is the desired outcome. Disapproval can still bring the post into more conversations and in front of more people.
Intent matters. An unpopular opinion, clumsy explanation, or genuine disagreement is not automatically rage bait. It can be difficult to establish why someone posted something. The useful lens is to notice when the apparent reward is the argument itself, rather than a correction, resolution, or exchange of ideas.
04The Game
Will responding help someone understand the issue, or mainly provide the attention the provocation was designed to attract? What outcome would make your participation worthwhile?
05One Line
An angry audience is still an audience.
