Onchain

The record is visible. The claim behind it may still need checking.

01Dictionary Meaning

Onchain means an action, asset record or piece of data is recorded or processed on a blockchain, as distinct from activity kept outside it.

02What People Think

"If it's onchain, it's transparent and true."

03What’s Underneath

A ledger can show that one address transferred a token to another. It may not reveal who controls those addresses or whether a promised physical asset exists.

Recorded data and the real-world facts it describes are different things. Even visibility varies: public and restricted ledgers expose different information, and interpreting a transaction can require specialist knowledge.

Onchain records can make some activity easier to verify and audit. Their value depends on asking a question the record is actually capable of answering.

04The Game

What can the ledger establish directly, and which parts of the story still depend on people, documentation or outside systems?

05One Line

Recording a claim does not verify everything the claim says.
