Old money describes wealth established and retained within a family over generations, often associated with longstanding social connections and status.

03What’s Underneath
The aesthetic is easy to photograph. The underlying resources are less visible: inherited property, existing networks, accumulated investments and familiarity with institutions.
Those advantages can make access look effortless because earlier generations absorbed some of its costs. They do not establish better character, better judgment or guaranteed financial durability.
A restrained wardrobe may resemble the cultural image of old money without reproducing the resources behind it. A style can circulate far more easily than a multigenerational balance sheet.
