03What’s Underneath
Shares vest next year. A bonus pays after the project ends. A benefit would be costly to replace. Each gives continued employment an extra financial value.
Meanwhile, a household may build its commitments around that level of compensation. Leaving then means giving up both future rewards and the income supporting today's obligations.
Staying can be a sensible choice. The trap is evaluating only the visible cost of departure while treating the time, health or alternative opportunities given up by staying as free.
