Generational Wealth
The next generation inherits the assets. Who inherits the decisions?
01Dictionary Meaning
Generational wealth is money and other valuable assets transferred across generations, together with arrangements that influence how those resources are held, used and preserved.
02What People Think
"If we leave enough, the family will be secure."
03What’s Underneath
A family business needs decisions. Property needs maintenance. Shared investments need rules for withdrawals and information.
Children may have different abilities, needs and interests. Equal ownership does not settle who manages an asset, who is paid for that work or how another family member can leave the arrangement.
Passing wealth onward therefore involves more than accumulating a large total. It involves preparing people and defining decisions that will continue after the original owner is no longer making them.
04The Game
What is being transferred alongside the assets: authority, knowledge, obligations and a workable way to resolve disagreement?
05One Line
A family can inherit the assets before it learns how to share the decisions.
