Dual Income

Two paychecks help. Two paychecks already spent leave less backup than they appear to.

01Dictionary Meaning

Dual income describes a household supported by earnings from two people, commonly partners.

02What People Think

"If one income disappears, we still have the other."

03What’s Underneath

Two incomes can increase capacity and reduce dependence on a single earner. The protection depends on the commitments built around them.

If housing and other fixed costs require both paychecks, losing one still creates a substantial gap. Work-related transport and care costs also affect how much of the second income remains available.

The two earnings may share risks if both people work for the same employer or in a vulnerable sector. Counting earners is the beginning of assessing resilience, not the conclusion.

04The Game

What remains after the costs of earning, and which commitments could still be met if one paycheck stopped?

05One Line

Two paychecks can buy flexibility or become two requirements.
