College Fund
The college fund has a balance. College has a future price.
01Dictionary Meaning
A college fund is money saved or invested toward future higher-education expenses, held through arrangements that depend on the family and jurisdiction.
02What People Think
"Once the account is open, education is covered."
03What’s Underneath
Opening an account creates a place for money. Contributions, investment results and future costs determine what it can eventually pay for.
Timing matters. A market decline close to the first tuition bill creates a different problem from a decline years before the money is needed. Spending conditions and tax treatment also depend on the account chosen.
Education plans can change. The student may study elsewhere, choose a different route or need support beyond tuition. The fund's usefulness depends on the choices its structure permits.
04The Game
What costs is the money meant to cover, when will it be needed, and what happens if the education plan changes?
05One Line
A college fund has to meet a date as well as a price.
