Allowance

In family life, an allowance is money given regularly to a child or dependent for agreed uses. It is often called pocket money.

The arrangement also defines what the money covers, when it arrives and what happens if it is spent early. Some families connect payments to tasks; others keep the two separate.
A child cannot practice managing a limit if the limit is unclear or changes unpredictably. Equally, making every mistake unusually costly can hide the lesson beneath the distress.
The useful feature is a decision small enough to understand: choosing one purchase, waiting for another and seeing how the balance changes.
