Rug Pull

The project looked open. One person still had the switch.

01Dictionary Meaning

Rug pull is a common crypto term for a scheme in which insiders exploit control to remove funds, withdraw liquidity or abandon commitments at other participants' expense.

02What People Think

"The code is public, so nobody can simply take the money."

03What’s Underneath

Public activity does not eliminate privileged access. A contract may let an administrator alter rules. A small group may control the treasury or the assets supporting trading.

Those powers can be legitimate operational features, but they matter to everyone placing money in the arrangement. A polished interface does not reveal who can move what behind it.

A failed project or falling price is not automatically a rug pull. The term points to conduct and control, not merely an unhappy result.

04The Game

Who can withdraw shared funds, change the rules or remove the ability to trade, and what limits those powers?

05One Line

A public ledger can still record a private abuse of control.
