Origin Dictionary / OD-002
Rich
The expensive car tells you what someone drives. The loan is harder to photograph.
01Dictionary Meaning
Rich describes having a lot of money, income or valuable assets relative to some comparison. It has no single financial cutoff.
02What People Think
"You can tell who has money."
03What’s Underneath
Two people can drive the same car. One paid from accumulated savings. The other has a large monthly payment and little left after payday.
Their visible spending matches. Their ability to absorb a setback does not.
Income, assets, debts and commitments answer different questions. Looking rich reveals surprisingly little about how those numbers fit together. Even the comparison moves: a large salary can feel ordinary inside a much more expensive social circle.
04The Game
Which version of rich is being measured: spending, earning, owning or having room to choose?
05One Line
A lifestyle has a look. A balance sheet has another story.
