Paper Hands

One person's "paper hands" is another person's paid rent.

01Dictionary Meaning

Paper hands is a dismissive market expression for someone who sells quickly or is seen as unable to tolerate volatility.

02What People Think

"Selling early proves you lacked conviction."

03What’s Underneath

An outsider sees the sale, not the seller's full situation. The person may need cash, have changed their assessment or be reducing a position that became too large.

They may also be reacting impulsively. The label cannot establish which explanation is true.

Judging a sale only by the price that follows ignores the information and constraints present when the decision was made. A later rally does not erase a bill that had to be paid earlier.

04The Game

What purpose did the exit serve for that holder, and whose interests are served by treating every exit as weakness?

05One Line

A market nickname cannot see your obligations.
