Digital Detox

He locked his phone away, then unlocked it to film the moment of freedom.

01Dictionary Meaning

A digital detox is a deliberate period of avoiding or reducing digital-device use to take a break from constant connectivity.

02What People Think

A dramatic break from screens will reset my whole relationship with technology.

03What’s Underneath

A digital detox is a chosen break from devices or particular digital activities. It might mean avoiding a phone for an evening, stepping away from social media, or reducing checking during a holiday. The term describes a practice rather than a single standardized programme or medical treatment.

The practical question is what the break is meant to make room for. A quiet meal, uninterrupted task, walk, or conversation provides a clearer purpose than simply performing the role of someone who is offline. Otherwise, documenting the detox can become another reason to keep reaching for the device.

People also rely on screens for work, access, navigation, and relationships. A useful boundary depends on those circumstances, and a temporary break does not guarantee a lasting change. The metaphor of detox should not be taken to mean that ordinary device use places a literal toxin in the body.

04The Game

Which use of technology would you like to interrupt, and what would replace it? Can the boundary serve that purpose without turning the break itself into another performance?

05One Line

Being offline is easier when it has somewhere else to lead.
